Laika mašīna ir tematiska audiovizuāla programma ar piedāvājumu ceļot laikā. Katrs seanss (laika mašīnas pietura) tiek veltīts dažādiem ikdienas dzīves aspektiem un sabiedrības kopējām atmiņām par to, kas un kā laikam ritot mainījās; kā pārtapa ikdienā lietotie produkti, jēdzieni un pazīstamas lietas un vietas.

Programmas pamatā izmantots tikai oficiālās audiovizuālās kultūras mantojums jeb Valsts Kinofotofonodokumentu arhīva neattīrītais materiāls. Koncentrējamies uz epizodēm ar mazu popularitātes potenciālu, tomēr nenoliedzami visaptverošu informāciju par laikmeta garu, stereotipiem un ideoloģiskām dogmām – kino žurnāliem un izglītojošām pasūtījuma filmām, kuru salikumu montāžas procesa subjektīvā skatījuma rezultātā var saukt arī par filmu filmā.
